As we pass the halfway mark of 2024, it's incredible how quickly the year flies by. The holiday season will be upon us before we know it. Our team has been working hard to ensure you are well-prepared for the upcoming ONC deadlines at the end of this year. Here is an overview of the key updates we'll be rolling out in the coming months. These include: 

• Regulatory updates - ONC Endpoint Requirements under HTI-1

• MeldRx directory (formerly MeldRx Hub) updates

• MeldRx app updates

• BlueButtonPRO rebranding

ONC Endpoint Requirements under HTI-1

Starting January 1st, 2025, EHRs must ensure that FHIR API endpoints for all provider organizations are published in a public directory. Here’s what you need to know:

• Service Base URL: ONC has revised and standardized the specification, which now requires (g)(10) certified developers to publish a “Service Base URL” that provides these endpoints in a “machine-readable” FHIR-based format. In addition to the FHIR endpoint details, the Service Base URL should contain organization details for each endpoint. ONC has also released a new tool as part of the Inferno tool (Service Base URL Test Kit) to ensure that this URL conforms to the HTI-1 requirements.

•  Compliance Deadline: (g)(10) certified developers must update and publish their Service Base URLs by December 31st, 2024.

•  Lantern Public Directory: ONC has developed a tool (Lantern) to check the availability of these Service Base URL lists on CHPL every hour, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. The tool provides information on how many of those checks were successful in the last seven days, the previous month, and the total number of checks since monitoring began. During each query, Lantern records data from each endpoint.

•  Avoid Corrective Action Plan: The HTI-1 final rule states that failure to maintain the service base URLs and ensure the associated organization information remains up-to-date and free of errors or defects quarterly would violate the Condition and Maintenance of Certification requirement and may result in corrective action.

MeldRx Directory Updates

Early this fall, we will roll out a newly redesigned MeldRx directory that will meet all the regulatory requirements and provide a simple way for anyone to search for organizations or individual providers. We will automatically publish all the FHIR endpoints provisioned for your providers to the directory. However, we will need your help to update your organization details and provider details for each endpoint. To simplify this process, we are rolling out some changes that allow you and your customers to manage listings directly from the MeldRx app. These changes will be published in real-time in the MeldRx directory and read by Lantern.

• Provider Listing: You can update the provider details for each endpoint based on the number of NPI licenses included in your contract.

• Update Directory Details: You or your customers can update the organization details for each endpoint.

• Improved Searching and Filtering: Improved search and filtering mechanisms will make it easier to find your organizations and providers in the directory.

MeldRx App Updates

In addition to the MeldRx directory-related updates, we are rolling out several updates to the MeldRx app to help you better manage your customers.

• Provisioning Workspaces: You can now directly manage your clients' workspaces (FHIR APIs). This includes provisioning new workspaces and managing NPIs for those workspaces.

• App Management: You can now manage your existing apps/client IDs, create new apps, and rotate secrets as needed.

• Customer Support: You can also use the MeldRx app to view your customers’ data and provide them with support.

BlueButtonPRO is now part of MeldRx. Read more about this change here.
