BlueButtonPRO™ - First Certified Solution for Cures Act Announces Integration with Microsoft Azure API for FHIR

Darena Solutions announced a new integration between their BlueButtonPRO™ solution and Microsoft® Azure API for FHIR. BlueButtonPRO is an end-to-end FHIR-based patient engagement platform to connect providers, payers, research organizations, registries and patients. Last week, BlueButtonPRO officially became the nation’s FIRST ever solution to be certified by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for meeting interoperability and patient access provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act. The new combined solution will enable real time seamless integration and allow Microsoft Azure API for FHIR customers to leverage all the features of the BlueButtonPRO solution stack.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced two final rules, one by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the other by the ONC, implementing parts of the 21st Century Cures Act. These final rules established Application Programming Interface (API) requirements based on HL7® FHIR® for healthcare providers, EHR vendors and payers to support patients’ access and control of their electronic health information. In addition to the plug-and-play solutions for providers and payers to meet these regulatory requirements, BlueButtonPRO suite also includes a unique FHIR-based solution for patients to manage their health data. The BlueButtonPRO solutions ecosystem enables healthcare organizations to achieve compliance with minimal disruptions to their current workflows and leverage new opportunities created by FHIR to improve patient care.
